Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat are the requirements to obtain a Real Estate Sales Person License in Connecticut? • Successful completion of Real Estate Principles & Practices course. All 60 hours must be in a classroom led by an instructor. • The applicant must be at least 18 years old to obtain a Real Estate License. • The applicant must take and pass the state Real Estate examination for Salesperson. • After successful completion of the required 60 classroom hours and passing the state examination, you must associate with a licensed broker to activate your Real Estate Salesperson license. When can I start the course? You may view and print the current class schedules, or contact the office electronically, or telephone 203-279-4287 for the next available start date. How can I become a broker? You must have an active salesperson’s license for two years and must complete the additional educational requirements before you can apply for a broker’s license. Can I sell real estate without a sponsoring broker? No, a real estate salesperson must have a sponsoring broker to maintain an active license and sell real estate. I passed the school test and need to schedule my state test. What do I do first? • Obtain a school affidavit documenting that you have passed the school exam. • Submit an application to sit for the state exam along with the original school affidavit and registration fee to the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. The school instructor will explain and provide you with an application and instructions on the entire process. I passed the pre-licensing class a few years ago, but never sat for the state exam. Can I send in my application now to take the state exam? • Yes, but you must submit original affidavits of satisfaction for one 60-hour course or two 30-hour Principles & Practices courses provided the first 30-hour course was completed no earlier than October 1994. • If you do not have a total of 60 hours, you must return to pre-licensing school to complete your missing hours and pass the school test. I let my license expire a few years ago. What do I need to do? If it has been over 2 years since your salesperson license expired, your eligibility to reinstate your license has also expired. You must attend and pass the 60 hour pre-licensing school curriculum, then reapply and retake the state exam.
